The Otago Central Rail Trail comes under the management umbrella of DOC Central and DOC Coastal with overall responsibility lying with the DOC Central Area Manager, who in turn reports to the Otago Conservator.
Through the foresight and commitment of DOC recognising the conservation, heritage and recreational values of what was destined to become yet another disused railway, a unique slice of New Zealand railway history and a way of life has been preserved.
DOC continues to maintain the Rail Trail for use by visitors, encourage community involvement and work with the OCRT Trust to support its enhancement objectives for the Otago Central Rail Trail.
