Venturing onto the Otago Central Rail Trail is nothing like setting out on a road trip with the expectation of finding accommodation along the way. The Rail Trail offers a wide choice of accommodation, but it is limited and during summer months it is necessary to book accommodation in advance; more so if you’re travelling as a group. In Central Otago in summer overnight temperatures can drop below 10 degrees celcius. A chilling experience if forced to sleep under the stars when ill prepared.
