Macraes Flat

Before fleeing the madding crowd for the Rail Trail be sure to diary ‘4pm, Hyde’. The time and place where Stanley’s Hotel free courtesy coach departs for historic Macraes Flat. The next morning it returns you to Hyde.

Opened in 1882, Stanley’s Hotel took five long years to build, possibly because the stonemason was paid in ale. Rumour has it he consumed some 17,200 litres. The original accommodation wing was recently refreshed and refurbished, providing 2 doubles, 2 twin shares and 1 family room with 1 double + bunks, shared toilets, showers and bath (free standing claw foot). The dining/lounge room has also been brought back to beautiful. An unusual but appreciated accommodation feature at Stanley's hotel is the family unit with a double, 2 singles + fold out couch, bathroom and small lounge.

The kitchen offers a array of meals prepared fresh to order. The bar is a rare treat, full of gold mining and other memorabilia on loan from the local community. The upright schist slabs walling the hotel’s garden are also a work of pride by the local community who love to share with visitors their pub, village, history and enormous working gold mine.
