Central Otago Tourism Awards 2010The Award Winning Old Doctor’s Residence is located in the historic precinct of Naseby in the Maniototo.  Originally an 1870s goldminer’s cottage and later substantially extended by the good doctor, Grant and Jan had beautiful bones with which to create luxury accommodation for Rail Trail travellers. For those who appreciate their own super-king bedroom and well-appointed stylish bathroom, guest lounge, antique colonial furniture and contemporary New Zealand works of art, then this is the place to stop.  For a couple or two couples cycling or walking the Rail Trail, this accommodation is the perfect antidote to fast-paced, modern urban living.

The judges of the Central Otago Tourism Awards described The Old Doctor’s Residence as ‘standout’ accommodation in Central Otago and were truly impressed by the ‘quality comprehensive package’.  At The Old Doctor’s Residence, ‘guests are treated to a memorable experience of excellence – in service, hospitality, attention to detail … and also in a wine and food experience.

To quote a guest “We too have been gathered in, graced with the most sublime of all that is the very best in New Zealand. You both so embody what the ancient Maori proverb says – te tangata, te tangata, te tangata. What is the most important thing?  It is the people, it is the people ...

Guests are offered a complimentary pre-dinner tasting of local pinot noir and hors d’oeuvres and by prior arrangement, will be served a gourmet dinner featuring local Otago produce.  Start, the day with a special breakfast – delicious local fresh and preserved fruits, home baked treats followed by your choice of cooked dishes from a daily changing menu.
