Lynda, New Plymouth… “Thanks for your wonderful hospitality and history drive around, great to have met you.”
Barry & Angie, Coromandel… “Brilliant accommodation, kind & hospitable hosts. Highly recommended. We’ll tell all our friends.”
It’s not surprising ‘hospitality’ is used time and time again in the Hawksview Guest Book. Hosts Denise and Stan are the epitome of Southern Hospitality ‘Omakau style’.
A large, gracious home built in the 1930s, Hawksview was readymade for the Rail Trail with the upper story converted some time ago into a fully self-contained three-bedroom apartment. This has its own entry as well as internal access to the ground floor where Denise and Stan are happy to entertain with tales of the district. Stan’s family settled here in 1889.
Accommodation is one king-twin and two queen bedrooms each with a single bed making Hawksview ideal for up to six ‘singles’ doing the Rail Trail as a group. There’s a cosy lounge with TV, books and board games; a modern bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. Those not wanting to self-cater will find dining close-by at Omakau eateries.
Why the name ‘Hawksview’? As Denise explains, being on the second storey guests have a hawk’s eye view of the surrounding countryside. Hawks are a common sight around Omakau.

Somewhere else perfect for hawk spotting is the large outdoor spa pool where muscles tired from pedaling or walking the Rail trail can be gently soothed and massaged by jets of aerated water. As many a guest has been heard to sigh…'pure bliss!' |
