Built over 100 years ago as the homestead for one of the Clyde-Alexandra district's
early orchards, Cottage Wheatsheaf is enjoying a new lease on life as self-contained accommodation for up to five people.
A labour of love by hosts Mark and Pippa Wellstead, Cottage Wheatsheaf shares with their family home a large oasis of lawn and gardens among rows of cherry, apricot and apple trees. Wheatsheaf affords peace, quiet and privacy, or for those celebrating their starting or finishing the Rail Trail there's sufficient separation to have a good time without worrying about the neighbours.
As the photographs show, Mark and Pippa have made the most of solid schist and concrete bones to create a décor theme capitalising on original features and character. Facilities include two bedrooms (queen and two singles), lounge-dining, fully equipped kitchen, private courtyard with outdoor furniture, wood burner and electric blankets.
From the start/end of the Otago Central Rail Trail at Clyde it is just a 10 minute cycle over the Clutha Bridge following Earnscleugh Road to Strode Road and Cottage Wheatsheaf. Mark and Pippa can by arrangement provide guest pick up and delivery into the restaurants, shopping and other attractions of Clyde and Alexandra.
