Just off the main bar, a recent extension in keeping with history of the tavern houses a dining area ideal for Rail Trailers to tuck into one of Lesley's meals renowned the length of the Rail Trail or enjoy a flat white or latte, or even better, an icy cold Speights -- a tip, in these parts you don't ask for a Speights Gold. Just saying 'Speights' is enough; unless you want a Speights Old Dark! The beer garden, which borders onto the Rail Trail, is a well cared-for grassy oasis with tables, sun umbrellas and for a real treat, double hammocks.
Built on the Alexandra to Naseby Cobb & Co coach route in 1886, its stacked stone construction has stood the test of time. When a mini-tornado whisked off the roof in 1991, the walls were unmoved and today tell their story through photographs and other memorabilia.
Accommodation includes 2 very comfortable double rooms and a bunkroom with dormitory style accommodation for 6. Linen and towels supplied. Hearty cooked and continental breakfasts available. An informal camping area is also available. |
