Group Accommodation: When there's between 6 and 10 experiencing the trail together, spread yourselves between Komako Peonies & Cottage Garden Accommodation and Waipiata Cottage. These wonderful places to stay are less than a kilometre apart and we provide free transport between them. We're happy to organise bookings for both.

Never slept in a railway station or bank building? You’re in for a treat at Komako Peonies Cottage Garden Accommodation alongside the Otago Central Rail Trail at Waipiata.

When in the mid-1990’s Heather and Grant purchased their lifestyle block they loved the early 1900’s homestead but weren’t sure about an eclectic collection of outbuildings. Luckily for Rail Trailers they reasoned that one day these might be useful. Grant’s carpentry and Heather’s eye for furniture and furnishings have now transformed three outbuildings (one was part of the Waipiata Station building, another a section of bank building, and the third a bit of a mystery) into, as the photos show, imaginative, private and comfortable doubles and singles accommodation. In this wonderful garden setting, for guests there’s a very private toilet, separate shower and laundry, and a fully equipped guest kitchen.

Food for self-catering can be organised or meals prepared by prior arrangement. On arrival there are welcoming treats. Continental breakfast is supplied, as is all linen. Transport is available to and from Ranfurly.

For peonies lovers, this is paradise found. From October through to December over 3000 peonies come into bloom.
